Memory is one of the most critical components to any server for processing web requests, database transactions and keeping the server running smoothly. Adding memory allows more information to be handled at one time, which directly impacts how fast the web pages load during busy traffic times (i.e. more people can view/place orders at a faster speed on your web site when you have more memory).

Servers can hold a large amount of information in memory at once to speed up tasks significantly, which is vital for busy web sites that rely on databases. A typical busy web site with a database does a lot of data processing; with more memory your server will run much faster (up to 10x) because more of the records in the database needed for searches and queries can be held in memory and are "at the ready." On a busy server which does not have enough memory available, that same web site and database will run much slower because each data request will require time consuming disk access to find and search through the data rather than having the data already in memory readily available. This can greatly impact any busy web site that relies on a database, and can affect the number of people who can access your web site or place orders at any one time.
