How does a Virtual Private Server Work?

Each virtual private server looks and behaves exactly like a real dedicated server system, complete with your own set of unix init scripts, user logins, system processes, file-systems with unlimited root access, and custom application software such as the apache web server. VPS servers provide the highest level of security just like a dedicated server, complete with customizable firewall protection and secure isolated disk space. Each VPS can have an unlimited number of domain names, or web accounts installed on it. Every VPS has its own IP address, port numbers, network connections etc as if it were a dedicated server. Each VPS has its own configuration files for the server, permitting you to customize every aspect of the system ranging from scheduled cron jobs to installing custom versions of the web server. Your VPS can have its own versions of system libraries or modify existing ones, upgrade or even downgrade software to meet your individual needs. Each VPS can delete, add, or modify any file. You can install and customize any application software.
